
Camilla Caldwell is an Australian NYC-based, classically trained violinist/composer whose repertoire pushes the limits of violin texture and sound through advanced techniques, electronics and creative partnerships. Camilla is a recent graduate of a second Masters, in Composition and Performance at Mannes The New School under Curtis Macomber and Stefan Jackiw after graduating with a Professional Studies Diploma. She was previously awarded a graduate assistantship for a Masters in Violin Performance at FSU under Benjamin Sung and was awarded the American Australian Arts Fund Scholar of 21. She works as a touring sessional violinist, having been invited to perform in China, Singapore, Austria, Italy, Germany and in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US.

She has been a concerto soloist at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melba Hall and with U3A Symphony Orchestra. Camilla was violinist for Taylor Mac’s (Genius Grant, Pulitzer Prize finalist) ‘A 24 Decade History of Popular Music,’ hailed as no.1 Timeout’s best shows on Melbourne stages 2017 as well as winning two Helpmann Awards. She led Opiuo’s Syzygy Orchestra as part of his tour and was associate concertmaster for Andrew Prahlow's New York show and upcoming album of his BAFTA nominated scores. Camilla was ​was engaged for the launch of ‘My Fair Lady’ directed by Dame Julie Andrews DBE and is a regular recording violinist at IMI studios and Bar4Bar TV.

An enthusiastic orchestral, chamber and pit musician, Camilla has toured over 30 Chinese cities with the Australian International Opera Company as Associate Concertmaster and with the Melbourne Opera Company. She was also engaged as concertmaster at Wiener Kammeroper and Brooklyn College, associate concertmaster for the Berlin Opernfest, and performed with Bronx Opera Company. A keen Chamber musician, Camilla was invited to perform with Chamber Philharmonia Cologne, to perform the Brahms Clarinet Quintet with the Henle Verlag editor in Italy, and was a regular member of the established Melbourne based chamber group “La FraternitaÌ€ di Solisti.” She was also recently invited to perform all Beethoven Symphonies with Orchestre de la Francophonie.

Camilla has also performed in the Young New Yorkers Chorus, Orchestre de la Francophonie, Bronx Symphony, Riverside Opera Company, Australian Discovery Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, South Georgia Ballet, Guilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria, Savoy Opera Orchestra, Mixed Ensemble, Renaissance Opera, Heidelberg Choral Orchestra, Opera Festival Orchestra, Guild and Lyrebird awards, Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight and concertmaster of the Australasian Orchestra.
A passionate advocate for new music, Camilla composes and collaborates with multi-disciplinary performers to premiere new works. She mixes electronics, improvisation and choreography and has performed with Contemporaneous ensemble (concertmaster, associate concertmaster), performed with Blackbox ensemble, Melbourne Composers’ Orchestra and was concertmaster of the Melbourne Metropolitan Sinfonietta. She is also the technical director of Brooklyn Motion Capture Dance Company and has had residencies at MIT Reality Hack and NotYetArt Phantom Dimensions with Brian Ellis performing immersive mixed reality violin performances.
